A Hadfield Street, Lodge resident is accusing her brother of physically and verbally abusing her and her family and says the authorities have failed to adequately respond to her complaints.
Doreen Dealy of Lot 2, Hadfield Street, Lodge is accusing her brother, who resides at the same address, of being abusive and expressed her disgust at the failure by the relevant authorities to properly address the issue.
The woman said that many reports had been made to the police and the local government authorities, but nothing had been done to bring relief to her.
According to Doreen, the problem between herself and her brother started around 2002-2003 after their father died. She said that her brother erected a small house behind her father’s home which is still being occupied by herself and her mother. She noted that the land that her brother’s house is built on is considered government reserve and so he has to use her yard to access his home at the back. It is the use of her yard as a walkway which has sparked the problem.
Doreen also stated that because of her brother’s occupation of the reserve land he has been abusing and threatening her and damaging her property.
She said that the damage she has suffered as a result of her brother’s abusive behaviour included broken windows at her home and a shattered front windscreen as well as dents and scratches to her car.
But apart from the material damage she has suffered from her brother’s actions, steps were also taken by him to have her lose her job. She said her brother took the time to go to her workplace where he degraded her character.
In an interview with Stabroek News, Doreen complained that she is tired of her brother’s behaviour and the course of action taken by the relevant authorities to whom she has made numerous reports.
She said that despite the matter being taken before the court nothing fruitful has come about. The course of action taken by the court, she related, has only being the placing of the parties on bond to keep the peace. She added, “is only bond, bond they are putting him on.”
Other attempts to solve the problem have resulted in engaging the City Council so that her brother’s occupation of the reserve will be sorted out.
The City Council has been able to demolish a gate the accused had constructed behind Doreen’s gate but that is as much that was done. She also related that in November 2011 the local government authority had passed an order giving the City Council permission to demolish her brother’s house. However, City Council has since failed to do so and only visited the premises and created an alternative walkway for her brother.
She is also accusing him of damaging her car. She stated that during June she brought her car that she has recently purchased to her home for the first time. She said that prior to this she used to park her vehicle in her church’s yard since she was afraid of bringing it home due to her brother’s behaviour.
However, after she parked her vehicle in her yard she along with some family members sat on her verandah in front of the yard. Her brother, who was out at the time, subsequently came home and left shortly after only to return later in the company of a friend. He then entered the yard and started hitting the back of the vehicle with his motorcycle while saying he didn’t want any vehicle parked in the yard.
She said that the matter was then reported and her brother was arrested but was freed afterwards without being charged. She also noted that over a month has passed and he is still to be charged since the police are claiming that there is not sufficient evidence implicating him.
