LUCAS STOCK INDEX
In the first week of trading in August 2012, the Lucas Stock Index (LSI) rose 1.04 percent. The increase came from a fairly robust performance by the stocks of one company, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (BTI), which grew by more than seven percent, in contrast to last week when four companies (DBL, SPL, CCI, DIH & DDL) helped the index grow by 3.35 percent. In this week’s trade, the stocks of DIH, DDL & DBL remained unchanged, causing the growth of the LSI to slow considerably. Nonetheless, the LSI continues to exceed the yield of the 364-day Treasury Bills by about 20 percentage points.
