ST.JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC-The West Indies Cricket Board yesterday announced the staging of the second annual High performance camp for under-15 cricketers in the region.
One hundred and twenty Under-15 cricketers have been selected to attend the two week exercise in Antigua and St Lucia from Monday.
The camp is aimed at developing cricketers from the WICB playing territories and includes life skills development, knowledge on the history of West Indies Cricket and media relations skills.
“We have been working with the governments of Antigua and St. Lucia for 10 years developing cricketers before the opportunity for this exciting regional partnership with the WICB” said Jeremy Jones, Regional Director for Sandals Resorts in the Eastern Caribbean.
Sandals is partnering with the governments of Antigua and St.Lucia to facilitate this year’s high performance camp.
“We understand how critical cricket continues to be to the way of life and heritage of the Caribbean community and therefore feel obligated to make a contribution to preserving and developing it,” Jones adds.
St. Lucia will host Trinidad, Barbados and Windward Islands whilst Antigua will host Jamaica, Leeward Islands and Guyanese under 15 cricketers.
The WICB has contracted some of the leading youth coaches in the Caribbean who will be facilitating the cricket specific development work.
The 2nd annual Regional High Performance camp takes place at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua and Beausejour Cricket Ground in St. Lucia.
“The WICB is enthused with the continued support of both the Sandals Foundation and the governments of Antigua and Barbuda and St Lucia in executing this high performance camp which is most critical to the future of West Indies cricket,” said WICB Project Officer for Youth Development, Fawwaz Baksh
The camp comes on the heels of the WICB Regional under 15 Tournament which concluded in St Kitts recently.
Barbados won the title with 63.5 points followed by Windward Islands on 57 points and Trinidad and Tobago 48.5 points.
Players from all six teams will participate in the WICB Sandals High Performance Camp.
