BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago were undone by Shai Hope’s third century of the tournament as Barbados snatched first innings points on the final day of their top-of-the-table fourth round clash in the Regional Under-19 Championship here yesterday.
Hope, Barbados’ captain, who had previously taken hundreds off both the Windward and Leeward Islands remained unbeaten on 104 as the Barbadians finally overcame Trinidad and Tobago’s challenging 337 for eight declared, finishing on 339 for six declared at Kensington Oval.
The right handed stroke-maker occupied the wicket for well over six hours in his 300-ball knock, striking five fours.
His innings was the impetus behind a fine Barbados effort after the hosts resumed the day at 110 for one.
Hope registered three figures off 292 balls with five boundaries after 367 minutes batting, shortly before his side achieved the lead in the late afternoon.
He upstaged leg-spinner Addrien Daniel whose five-wicket haul kept T&T in the contest all the way through.
Daniel threatened the derail the local side’s thrust to first innings points in the morning session, removing overnight not out batsman Shayne Moseley for 61 before sending back Kemar Brathwaite (0) and Jonathan Drakes (11) cheaply.
From a lunch time position of 181 for four, Hope established successive partnerships of 62 with Marlon Welcome-Goodman (37), 65 with wicketkeeper Carlos Maynard (43) and an unbroken 47 with Darnell Greenidge (31 not out), as Barbados marched to their target.
Greenidge, known more for his fast bowling, belted the only six of the innings and put the Barbadians ahead with a slashed boundary to deep point.
Daniel, who was introduced into the attack as early as the fourth over and bowled unchanged through the remainder of the morning session, finished with five for 98.
