A second person yesterday succumbed to injuries suffered as a result of the gruesome accident which occurred on the Lima Public Road, Essequibo Accident on Sunday.
Deon ‘Junior’ Ramroop, the stepson of businessman Rupan ‘Fowl Cock’ Ramroop, died yesterday around midday in an aircraft as he was being brought to the city for further medical treatment after his condition took a turn for the worse.
On Sunday, motorcar PPP 733 which was driven by Ramroop, spun out of control and collided with minibus BHH 6103 resulting in the death of a mother of two, 34-year-old Padmawattie ‘Rida’ Kumarie and causing injuries to seven other occupants of the bus.
All of the injured persons, with the exception of Ramroop, were air- dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by a Guyana Defence Force helicopter and a private plane.
Ramroop was said to be on life support, resulting in him being unable to travel to Georgetown.
However, a friend close to the family disclosed to Stabroek News that the 22-year-old’s condition deteriorated over the two- day period, prompting the family to risk the journey for better medical treatment.
The young miner reportedly returned from the interior to his Charity home just two days prior to the accident. He was said to be heading to his girlfriend’s Anna Regina home after which they were planning to go to Lake Mainstay for the Regatta.
According to the friend, Ramroop lost control of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, at the GPH, the other victims are all listed in a stable condition with one person, driver of the bus, 51-year-old Vincent Persaud, listed as in a guarded condition. He has been admitted to the High Dependency Unit.
Alan Gildharie, 35, of Charity, Essequibo sustained injuries to both legs and is a patient of the Male Surgical Ward in a stable condition. His wife, 35-year-old Claire Gildharie’s right leg is broken in three places while her left is broken in one place. She also lost her unborn baby as a result of the accident. The couple’s two-year-old son, Alex Gildharie, suffered abdominal injuries and was admitted to the Paediatric Ward in a stable condition.
The three other children who were involved in the accident, the dead woman’s two children, 7-year-old Navindra ‘Amesh’ Persaud and 6-year-old Geeta Persaud; her 10-year-old nephew Satesh Rajkumar, are also patients of the Paediatric Ward of the GPH.
Navindra, according to a hospital press release, sustained poly trauma, Geeta has suffered injuries to her leg and Satesh, of Johanna Cecelia, injured his left leg.
The Gildharie family was expected to disembark the minibus at Anna Regina, where they intended to visit a relative at the Suddie Hospital. The other family was travelling to Lake Mainstay for the Regatta.
