Dear Editor,
The ministry donated some packages to different secondary schools around the country for fifth form students earlier this year. Each package contained a Mathematics textbook, a English textbook, a calculator and Maths and English past CXC papers.
They expected us (the fifth formers), by the end of these examinations to return these packages, but of course, some students did not.
For all the schools that received packages, the ministry has blocked access to the CSEC results. Therefore, students are unable to view their results, even those who did return their packages.
This movement by the Ministry of Education is not only unfair but also negligent because it severely affects those students who intend to further their studies at the tertiary level, beginning in September and who need to take in their results as soon as possible to these institutions.
The Ministry of Education, before making such a decision should have thought about all the consequences of it and if this is what they plan to continue every year, they should keep their packages.
Something needs to be done about this quickly because students and parents are frustrated.
We are appealing to the Minister of Education to fix this, be fair, give the students who returned their packages their results, and let the others pay their own price.
Yours faithfully,
