A commercial sex worker was yesterday fined for wounding a woman, who he said launched an unprovoked attack on him.
The 18-year-old man appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton charged with unlawful wounding and using abusive language.
It was alleged that on July 31, at Georgetown, the accused wounded and used abusive language to Stacy Caesar.
The man pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Caesar but denied using abusive language to her.
Prosecutor Burgett Grant stated that the altercation between the two occurred at 1:30am, at High and Hadfield streets. Grant said the man started to abuse Caesar, which resulted in a fight, during which he dealt her a cuff that led to injuries to the woman’s right eye. She added that when the accused was arrested, he admitted to the wounding charge.
Caesar was not present at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court when the case was called.
But the accused told the court that the woman attacked him first. “I was under Demico dancing when Stacy passed and pelt me with a bottle,” he said, adding that he picked up a bottle which contained liquid and hurled it at her before they started to fight.
“I had wool in my hair and she hold on to it and pulled it and then I bored her in her eyes with my finger and someone came and part the fight we had and then she continued to rush up,” he added.
After looking at the evidence given by the prosecution, including medical certificates showing that Caesar sustained other injuries to other parts of her body and that the accused also sustained injuries to his body, Magistrate Octive-Hamilton fined the man $35,000 with an alternative of one month in jail and advised him to be on his best behaviour.
Meanwhile the prosecution had no objections to bail for the abusive language charge against the man and it was set at $10,000.
The matter was then transferred to Court One and it will be called on September 27, for reports and fixtures.
