An argument between a sales clerk and a former workmate landed them both before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on assault charges.
Sales clerk Kelvin Tappin, 24, of Lot 51 Norton Street, Lodge, was accused of assaulting Natasha Robertson but he pleaded not guilty to the charge. Robertson, however, pleaded guilty to assaulting Tappin, when the case was called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Burgett Grant said Tappin was at his place of employment when Robertson asked to speak to his boss. Grant said Tappin drew his teeth at Robertson, who became annoyed and then started pointing her finger at his face and he pushed it away.
He moved slightly away and then pushed her to the ground, Grant added, saying that Robertson then got up and scrambled Tappin’s vest, after which he then pushed her to the ground again.
Prosecutor Grant then said after the altercation, Tappin then went to the Brickdam Police Station, where he reported the matter, after which Robertson was contacted and told of the allegation and she was later charged.
“I went to tell my former workmate that when his boss comes into the country, let him come to me for the box money.
He then suck he teeth pon me and I asked him why he did that?” Robertson said when given the opportunity to explain.
“We started to point fingers at one another and he spit on me, then I scramble he vest and it tear and then he started hitting me,” she added.
The woman said after the scuffle she went to the station and she was sent to the hospital, where she received a medical certificate.
Magistrate Octive-Hamilton said that the matter before her could have been avoided because both parties knew each other and were wrong to behave in such a manner.
The Magistrate then placed Robertson on a three-month bond to keep the peace and ordered her to be on good behaviour.
As regards the charge against Tappin, the prosecution had no objections to bail and the magistrate set the amount at $15,000.
The matter was transferred to Court One for September 27, for report and fixtures.
