Everest Cricket Club will kick off the inaugural David Persaud Investments Cup Under-19 cricket tournament with a match against Malteenoes Sports Club today at Camp Road in a Zone `A’ encounter.
The tournament which has attracted some 13 teams under the umbrella of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) and will be played under a new but not unusual format.
The competition will see teams contesting a 100-over match with the team batting first being able to bat a maximum of 55 overs laving 45 overs for the side batting second.vIn other zone `A’ matches scheduled for today, Transport Sports Club’s A team will face Ace Warriors at the Gandhi Youth Organization ground while St Stanislaus College, one of two school teams in the competition, will play DCC `B’ at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation ground.
Zone B teams will kick off their action tomorrow with Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) tackling Queen’s College at GYO, Third Class taking on Transport Sports Club `B’ at Everest and Bel Air, opposing DCC at their home ground in Queenstown. The tournament was launched earlier this month and is being held in the memory of the late city businessman David Persaud who passed away last April.vPersaud was chairman of David Persaud Investments Limited at the time of his death.
The late David Persaud was a keen lawn tennis player and a former president of the Everest Cricket Club where he served as Club Captain for a number of years.
