Guyana’s Nicola Ramdyhan yesterday secured a second place in the girls 14-and-under category of the First Citizen Investment’s Services 2012 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Tennis Championships in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Following her semifinal win against the category’s top seeded player, Jessica Isaacs, Ramdyhan lost to the second seed, Llana Blackwood, to pick up her second second-place win in the category, in just as many years.
According to reports, in a tough match Ramdyhan lost 6 – 1, 2 – 6, 1 – 6 to the Barbadian, to lose out on the Championship title, but not before she conquered Antiguan Isaacs in a 3 – 6, 6 – 3, 6 – 2 win.
On her way to the finals Ramdyhan also picked up a 6 – 4, 2 – 6, 7 – 5 win against Barbadian Jaimie Lewis in the quarterfinals.
On the boys side of the 14-and-under category, Judah Stephney partnered with Trinidadian Juanaldo Greig to be on the courts yesterday in a boys doubles quarter- finals match. The two were set to play St Lucians Tjimon Louisy and James Stephenson. The pair made it out of the first round after triumphing 6 – 3, 6 – 1 over Vincentians Josh Mounsey and Richard Hoyte.
Stephney was ousted 4 – 1, 4 – 1 in the boys singles consolation by Vincentian Khamisi Bascome.
In the 18-and-under category, Guyana’s Shawna Gentle toppled USA’s Alexandra Bourguignon 6 – 0, 6 – 0, following her first round 6 – 3, 6 – 3 win against Trinidadian Danielle Devenish in the girls category.
Craig Campbell was ousted in similar fashion in the boys main draw where he went down against Mexican Parenchyna Cardenas.
