A man accused of having 345 grammes of cannabis was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Adrian Greene is that on August 14 at Georgetown he had in his possession 345 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Greene, who requested bail, pleaded not guilty to the narcotic-trafficking charge. The prosecution objected to the accused being granted bail.
The magistrate explained to the unrepresented Greene that he must advance special circumstances relating to the offence for bail to be considered.
The accused subsequently told the court that he was asthmatic and was beaten up and his food taken away by other prisoners while in the lock-ups.
He said too that he was denied medical treatment.
The court, however, informed that the circumstances were not special reasons relating to the offence and, in the circumstances, he would be remanded to prison.
He had indicated to the court that his wife had gone to retain the services of an attorney, but no one entered an appearance on his behalf.
The case was later transferred to Court One for September 26 for reports and fixtures.
