Three businessmen were yesterday charged with knowingly receiving stolen electronics and home appliances.
Eon Griffith, 36, of 430 North East La Penitence, Mohan Sahibdeen, 48, of 187 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara and Malcolm Sonaram, 62, of 514 Kiskadee Drive, South Ruimveldt Gardens, were separately charged for receiving stolen property from the same person, Cecile Pluck.
Griffith, proprietor of the London Based Car Wash, Sahibdeen, who runs Adrian’s taxi Service and Sonaram, a businessman, all pleaded not guilty and were placed on $200,000 bail by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that on August 11, in Georgetown, Griffith, Sahibdeen, and Sonaram all received stolen goods from Pluck, although knowing them to be property of Dexter John.
Griffith allegedly received a Royal Freezer, valued $150,000 and a Samsung Fridge valued $160,000; Sahibdeen allegedly received a LG Television, valued $270,000; and Sonaram allegedly received a 47” Samsung Television, valued at $240,000.
Griffith was represented by attorney Peter Hugh, who stated that his client did not pose a flight risk and had no previous or pending matter in the court and therefore was eligible for bail.
Attorney Mohamed Zafar, who represented Sahibdeen and Sonaram, stated that his clients had no pending or previous matters in the court and did not pose flight risks and therefore he sought reasonable bail. Zafar added that Sonaram was a diabetic and while being taken into custody he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The prosecution had no objections to the three accused being granted bail.
All three cases will be called again on September 26, at Court One.
