Bowlers yesterday dominated the second round of the inaugural David Persaud Investments Cup under-19 cricket competition run by the Georgetown Cricket Association.
There were three five wicket hauls and wins for the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Transport Sports Club B.
At Queenstown, DCC “A” defeated Bel Air Texaco by 112 runs.
DCC “A” batting scored 214 for 5 wickets in their full complement of 55 overs.
C. McEwan, 68, T. Imlack 38 and O. Dhanram 26 were the principal scorers. Bowling for Bel Air Texaco: B. Sanichar took 2 wickets for 31 runs.
In reply, Bel Air Texaco was dismissed for 102 with Orlando Sturdge of DCC A capturing 5 wickets for 15 runs.
At the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, GCC defeated Queen’s College by 141 runs. GCC, batting first, were dismissed for 234 in 44.2 overs with Devon Lord, 64, F. Omrow, 46. and M. Pestano Belle 30 the top scorers.
Bowling for Queen’s College, T. Mana took 5 wickets for 61 runs and S. Rutherford, 3 for 22. In reply, Queen’s College were dismissed for 93 runs in 29.2 overs. Bowling for GCC T. Dharamlall took 5 wickets for 23 runs, D. Lord 2 for 16 and B. Bailey 2 for 23.
And, at the Everest Cricket Club ground Camp Road, Transport Sports Club “B” defeated 3rd Class by 69 runs.
Transport SC batting first made 213 for 7 in their 55 overs. J. Wilson, 63 and S. Profitt, 42, were the main contributors.
Bowling for 3rd Class, S. Garnett took 2 wickets for 26 runs.
In reply 3rd Class were dismissed for 155 with F. Douglas making 40, D. Maniram 40 and S. Garnett 30.
Bowling for Transport SC “B” A. Persaud took 5 wickets for 28 runs.
The competition continues today and tomorrow with the following three matches in Zone A today: – Demerara CC “B” Vs Malteenoes SC at the GNIC ground; Gandhi YO Vs Ace Warriors at the GYO ground and Transport SC “A” Vs Everest CC at the Everest ground. Saint Stanislaus College drew the bye.
Tomorrow’s Zone `B’ fixtures will see: Transport SC “B” Vs Queen’s College at the GYO ground; 3rd Class Vs Demerara CC “A” at the GNIC ground and Bel Air Texaco Vs Georgetown CC at the GCC ground.
