The Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) will stage its first recorded shoot tomorrow as the national shooters intensify training for the West Indies Fullbore championships in October here.
The shoot will take place at the Timehri Rifle ranges and be over the 300, 600, and 900 yards ranges starting at 10:00 hours.
Three shooters National captain Mahendra Persaud, former Caribbean individual champion Ransford Goodluck and former national champion Lennox Braithwaite are favourites to win tomorrow’s shoot.
Other shooters in the squad are Richard and Dylan Fields, Dane Blair, Charles Deane, Claude Duguid and Peter Persaud, retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe and Ryan Sampson.
They will be joined by at least three overseas-based Guyanese shooters for the regional championships to be hosted during the second week in October.
Persaud said he was extremely pleased with last Sunday’s turnout of shooters for the practice shoot as Guyana prepares to defend the long range title and look to reclaim the short range honours.
The tournament will attract shooters from Antigua/Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and host Guyana.
Jamaica are the defending champions following their narrow two-point win over Guyana in the short range team match in Antigua last year.
Guyana holds the long range title which they won in Barbados in 2010.
The West Indies championships will run for five days with three days set aside for individual competition while the final two days will be the team matches.
In 2007 Guyana last hosted the regional event when shared the team matches title with Trinidad and Tobago.
