Golfers will showcase their skills today in the Ray Auto Sales sponsored Medal Play golf tournament as they gear up for a packed programme over the next few months including participation in three majors.
Today’s tournament will get cracking at 12:30 hours at the Lusignan Golf Club and already over 30 players have registered to compete.
The course is in excellent condition so good scores are anticipated from the players.
The lineup will include William Walker, Dr. Ram Singh, Patrick Prashad, Mike Gayadin, Maurice Solomon, Mike Mangal, Chatterpaul Deo, Mark Lashley, Jerome Khan, Rawl Moore, Brian Hackett, Troy Cadogan, Brian Glasford, Ian Gouveia, Mohanlall Dinnanauth, Alfred Mentore, Clifford Reis, Kishun Bacchus, Joaan Deo, Christine Sukhram, Carlos Adams, Colin Ming, Dave Mohamed, Andre Cummings and John Tracey.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three players with the best net scores as well as Nearest to the Pin and Longest drive.
Representatives of the sponsors Ray Auto Sales are expected to present the prizes at the end of the tournament.
The players will use this tournament to fine tune their preparation for the inaugural President’s Cup to be staged on September 16th starting at 09:30 hours.
The tour was announced earlier this week as the Ministry of tourism and the Lusignan Golf Club team up to promote golf as a sports tourism package.
The other two majors include the Digicel two-day Classic and the premier Banks DIH sponsored Guyana Open listed for late October and early November.
Meanwhile, President of the Club, Jerome Khan disclosed that a strong team will represent Guyana at the Suriname Open scheduled for September 28-30 in Paramaribo.
He said the Lusignan Club will submit the names of the players who will be travelling to the neighbouring republic by next weekend to officials of the Paramaribo Golf Club.
