The Ministry of Home Affairs today expressed sadness at the passing of former Police Commissioner, Laurie Lewis and said that he had served with distinction.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is saddened over the passing of Mr. Laurie Lewis D.S.S., former Commissioner of Police on Monday 13th August 2012.
Mr. Lewis served the Guyana Police Force with distinction and more particularly during his tenure as Commissioner of Police. He was in charge of the Force during a critical period in its history in 1992 when there was a political transition in the country.
He was known to have taken a number of initiatives to develop the Force, including the IMPACT Programme and the reform of Community Policing, which was aimed at bringing the Guyana Police Force closer to the public.
His impact on the Force was positive and he will be remembered for the efforts he made at improving the quality of policing in Guyana.
The Ministry wishes to express its condolences to his wife Mrs. Jennifer Lewis, his children and other immediate relatives.
