The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana on Saturday said that the Muslim scholar who had been charged with sexually abusing several boys remains suspended from the CIOG.
The statement was in reference to a story in Saturday’s Stabroek News which reported that members of the Turkeyen Masjid were outraged that the Muslim scholar, Nezaam Ali, was allowed to lead prayers despite the charges against him.
When the CIOG was contacted on Friday it said that it had no jurisdiction over the masjid and as such it had “no comments to make over the matter.”
Saturday’s statement issued by the Press Department of the CIOG however said that “Mr Ali’s suspension from the CIOG is still in effect”.
