The preparation for the Guyana Cup horse racing event set for Sunday continues to move ahead in anticipation of it being the largest ever local event with over $30 million in cash and prizes up for grabs.
Coordinator Rajendra Jagdeo of the Port Mourant (Berbice) Turf Club Track has said that upgrading and renovation works are currently ongoing. He added that so far everything has been falling into place.
According to Jagdeo, the relay track was sand-filled and work was also done to spruce up the stands and stables while extensions were done to the grandstand for the convenience of spectators. Additional stables were also made to accommodate the horses.
The organisers said they have already mobilised some of the major sponsors and continue to register some of the best horses for the meeting. The event will see both local and overseas-based horses and jockeys competing.
This meet is being sponsored by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, Banks DIH, Digicel, Hand in Hand and several other major Guyanese companies. This will be the first time that the races will start off with 16 horses, including all of the country’s finest horses.
Some of the horses that will be competing are Grande Roja, Marathon Man, Got To Go, Home Bush Baby, Who’s On The Case, Appealing Harvest, Top Of The Line, Captain Crook, Sabrina Joy, Big Impact, Serenity, Pride & Joy, Rosetta, I Want Revenge, Princess Alisha, It’s My Turn, Gypsy Jet, Another Jet, Prospector’s Pride, Blame The Jockey, She’s So Special, Wicked Intention, De Gumo, Quincy, Dream Girl, Silent Night, Easy To Win, Lucky Gold, Dream Boy, Hard Runnings, Maracas Star, RJ Express, Super Bowl, Stormy Lass, Maya, D’Girls Dem Sugar, The Bailiff, Ameera’s Joy, Gold Rush, Jipsey Rose, Windy War, Feel like Gold and Perfect Circle.
