A seven-year-old boy was yesterday afternoon found murdered behind a rice mill in Number 68 Village, Corentyne.
Saheed Makatnauth of No. 68 village housing scheme squatting area, Corentyne was reported missing on Tuesday to police. He had been missing since Monday afternoon around 17:30 hrs.
Radica (only name given), one of the neighbours who helped to search for the lad related to SN what happened. The woman stated that on Monday the dead boy’s parents had a domestic problem and his mother was taken to the hospital. When his father and her husband was returning they saw Saheed and Zil (call name of the suspect and only name given) going out on the road. When asked where they were going Zil replied that he was taking the boy to buy some food.
Subsequently Zil returned without the child. When questioned by residents where the boy was he told them that he crossed the boy over the road for him to return home.
Residents then launched a search which was fruitless over two days. The woman added that the child was found behind a rice mill in the community. He was found with his face damaged and cuts about his body. The resident also indicated that the boy’s body was found in a pool of water. Radica said that on Tuesday the suspect was taken into custody and later yesterday afternoon confessed in front of his sister and a police officer that he was the one who had committed the crime.
