Skipper Shaquille Williams gave his home ground a welcome return to club cricket as he smashed 158 against Transport `A’ playing for Malteenoes Sports Club in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) David Persaud Investments Cup match yesterday which ended in a draw.
Malteenoes, batting first scored 327 for six after early morning showers resulted in the umpires reducing the game to a maximum of 44 overs for the side batting first and 34 for the side batting second.
Williams, already with a century in the tournament, was in imperious form, striking 10 sixes and eight fours while the left-handed Vishal Narayan provided ample support, stroking six fours and a six in 70.
Openers Denzil Alleyne and Nicosie Barker chipped in with 22 and 23 runs respectively. Bowling for Transport `A’, K. Morris took 2 for 53, A. Vickram 2 for 44 and R.Sumair 2 for 69.
Malteenoes’ Kareem Naughton produced a lively opening burst as he took two wickets in his first over to put keep the pressure on Transport A. He ended with 2-10.
Transport’s batsmen did well to bat out 34 overs, scoring 141 and losing 7 wickets in the process to deny Malteenoes an outright victory.
Williams and Narayan shared four wickets between them as Williams finished with 2 for 36 and Narayan 2 for 8. Joshua Ram scored 24 for TSC A while K Hetsberger top scored with 37.
In other Group A action Ace Warriors failed to turn up against Everest at Camp Road while on Woolford Avenue at GYO, St Stanislaus College went down to Gandhi Youth Organisation.
St. Stanislaus College made 110 all out with GYO’s Mark Hamilton taking 4 for 16 and Shiveshwar Sankar 4 for 37. Opener R. Deonarine carried his bat through the innings ending on 39 not out.
GYO reached 111 for the loss of three wickets. Loakesh Reid made 40 not out and Pravindralall Persaud 30.
On Tuesday, Demerara Cricket Club’s `A’ side took on Queen’s College at the DCC ground and won by 160 runs.
Batting first, DCC `A’ scored 259 for 9 in 55 overs with C. McEwan top scoring with 50. A. Gibson 46, S. Rupee 43 and M. Shalim 25 were also among the runs.
Bowling for Queen’s College P. Christie took 4 wickets for 50 runs and J. Mana 3 for 59.
In reply, Queen’s College was dismissed for 99 in 41.3 overs.
J. Mana made 19. Bowling for DCC `A’ Michael Shalim took 5 wickets for eight runs and Omesh Dhanram 2 for 48.
At GYO ground, Bel Air Texaco defeated Third Class by four wickets. Third Class, batting first, made 81 all out in 18.1 overs with S. Garnett’s 37 the top score. Bowling for Bel Air Texaco, G. Balkaran took 3 wickets for 17 runs and Ray Ramjal 3 for 25.
In reply, Bel Air Texaco scored 82 for 6 wickets in 18.2 overs.
T. Puran made 25 not out.
Bowling for Third Class, K. Douglas took 2 wickets for 17 runs.
At Bourda, Georgetown Cricket Club defeated Transport Sports Club `B’ by 10 wickets.
Transport SC `B’ batting first, fell for 39 with B. Bailey bagging four wickets for four runs and T. Dharamlall 2 for 2. In reply, Georgetown CC scored 40 runs without loss.F. Omrow was not out on 12 and R. Perez 10 not out.
