Dray cart operator accused of stealing $100,000 cricket band

A dray cart operator brought before the court yesterday for stealing a cricket band at Lombard Street was put on  $85,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that on Monday at Lombard Street, Georgetown, Christopher Kumar stole one cricket band valued $100,000 from the person of Shurla Baynes.

Facts of what occurred on the day in question were not related to the court.

Kumar, 22, of 168 Curtis Street, Albouystown, was not required to plead to the indictable offence.

Counsel for the accused, Mohamed Zafar, made an application to the court on his client’s behalf for reasonable bail and the prosecution had no objection.

Kumar was granted bail in the sum of $85,000 after the magistrate heard the case.

He is scheduled to return to Court One of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on October 1 for report and fixture.
