(Trinidad Express) Former prime minister Patrick Manning was last night taken to the San Fernando General Hospital after suffering what was described as a seizure at his home in Sumadh Gardens, Vistabella.
At press time, he was being treated by doctors at the Accident and Emergency department. A post on Manning’s Facebook page last night stated: “Let not your heart be troubled. I am fine. Just had a CT scan and X-Ray. All is well. Waiting on doctor and then I will be heading home. Almighty God is great and I thank him for his mercies.”
In January, Manning suffered a debilitating stroke at hospital and was stabilised at the San Fernando General Hospital before seeking treatment and rehabilitation at a hospital in the United States.
Last month, Manning returned home to a hero’s welcome, but appeared frail and spoke little with supporters who met him at Piarco International Airport.
A person who answered the phone at Manning’s home last night said he suffered a “slight seizure” around 6 p.m. and was taken by a relative to hospital.
The Express was told the Manning family was advised that the seizure was not a medical episode that would need intensive treatment and he may have been discharged last night.
The family was told that a seizure such as the one suffered by Manning was common in persons recovering from a stroke.
Chairman of the South-West Regional Health Authority Dr Lackram Bodoe told the Express that Manning was being attended to by a team of medical practitioners, headed by a consultant neurologist.
Several of Manning’s friends and relatives were at the hospital last night awaiting word on his condition.
