Members of the Witness Project yesterday visited the Kaieteur Falls by way of a partnership between its founder Margaret Clemons of the New York-based Margaret Clemons Founda-tion (MCF) and Trans Guyana Airways.
The MCF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Help & Shelter on a project which is addressing the issue of gender based and child directed violence. The objective, a release from the body said, is to “give children a voice on the things that impact their lives, including the violence that takes place all around them”. The Witness Project is also aimed at helping children “identify the wonderful things that are happening everyday in Guyana”.
Speaking with this newspaper at the Ogle Airport, Clemons said that part of the workshop is aimed at creating better relations and developing different strategies to deal with crisis and resolution.
“The outdoor activities we have this week have been amazing. We have worked with youths doing art projects and performances and had a wonderful exchange of information. You may wonder what that has to do with gender violence? It really is a developing strategy through innovative practices to change an environment of violence. We believe by introducing the children to different issues, different experiences we can make a change,” she noted.
