A combined bowling effort from the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) spurred them to victory over the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) on Thursday as the Georgetown Cricket Association’s David Persaud Investments Cup limited overs competition continued at various grounds in the city.
DCC scored a disappointing 74 all out in 33.4 overs with Guyana under 15 all rounder Michael Shalim making the top score of 20. Seam bowler Bernard Bailey collected 3 for 17. Almando Doman captured 3-20 and young Devon Lord 4-3. GCC reached their target somewhat shakily losing seven wickets in the process. Doman gave the innings early impetus with a quick 25.
In Queenstown DCC `B’ beat Transport `A’ by six wickets in a game reduced to 25 overs for the side batting first and 21 for the side batting second.
Bowling for DCC `B’ Caville Reese took 5 – 18 runs as Transport were shot out for 85. Shemar Mantu supported with two wickets.
Shazim Khan top scored with 20 while DCC B gifted 40 extras.
DCC `B’ reached their target for the loss of four wickets in 19.3 overs. Wicket-keeper/batsman Kemol Savory scored an unbeaten 33. Bowling for Transport SC `A,’ K. Hetsberger took a solitary wicket for 13 runs.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, St. Stanislaus College crashed to 81 all out suffering a nine wicket loss to Everest Cricket Club in the process. Charlton Gaspar made the top score of 26 while Nadeem Rasheed collected 3 for 33, Ryan Dhanraj 3 for 18 and Aleem Rasheed 2 for 6. Everest raced to 82 for 1 with Steve Ramdass making 16 not out and Sherfayne Rutherford 34 not out. At the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground, Queen’s College went down to Third Class.
QC scored 135 all out in 33 of their allotted 35 overs with Amil Alli, 35, Steven Rutherford, 21 and Bruce Cummings, 26, the principal scorers. Keron Price bagged 6 – 9.
In reply, Doodram Muniram scored 22 as Third Class won by two wickets with A. O’ Neil’s 66 anchoring the chase. Rutherford took 3 for 29 and Pernell Christie 2 for 20 for Queen’s College.
At GYO, Transport `B’ lost convincingly to Bel Air Texaco. Bel Air Texaco batted first and scored 187 for 8 in 40 overs. Thakur Pooran made 42, Paramanand Sanicharan, 50 and Akshay Rampersaud 24. Simeon Lovell collected 2 for 25, Avinash Motilall 2 for 45, Colin Barlow 2 for 27 and Waqar Bacchus 2 for 19 were the wicket takers for Transports `B’ who in reply, reached 93 for 9, innings closed since they were one batsman short. Lovell top scored with 25 and Joshua Wilson made 21 as Bel Air Texaco triumphed by 94 runs. Bhojnarine Sanichar collected 2 for 8 and Akshay Rampersaud 2 for 16 Malteenoes beat GYO by nine wickets. In a match reduced to 22 overs for the team batting first and 18 for the side chasing, GYO batted first and scored 98 for 9 with S. Roopnarine making the top score of 27. Energetic fielding accounted for three run outs by Malteenoes while skipper Shaquille Williams took 2 wickets for 8 runs. Malteenoes’ nine-wicket victory was achieved in 16 overs as opener Nicosie Barker scored 66 not out while Vishal Narayan finished on 20 not out.
Meanwhile, the Carib Beer and Friends of Cricket Heroes Cup resumes today after a lengthy postponement due to the prolonged rainy season. The fixtures are as follows:
