The eagerly-anticipated Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) New Building Society limited overs competition for second division teams will finally bowl off this today in Georgetown.
The tournament was launched on May 14 this year with a well attended opening ceremony at the company’s latest branch on Avenue of the Republic. The opening ceremony featured several notable speeches, including from Chairperson of the event, Labour Minister Dr. Nanda Gopaul, Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Frank Anthony, Moen McDoom, incoming chairman of the board of NBS, and former West Indies captain and current GCA president Roger Harper.
The tournament will be played in two zones in a league format and will involve the GCA second division teams.
The first and second placed teams in each zone advance to the semi-finals with the winner of zone A playing the second placed team of zone B in semi final one, and the winner of zone B playing the runner up of zone B in the second semifinal.
Players who have represented Guyana at the senior level within the last three years and their county at the senior level within the last two years are debarred from taking part in the competition, according to the playing conditions. Also, players who have played first division this year are required to play at least two matches of this competition to qualify to participate in the semifinal and final.

Today, Zone A: GNIC vs. 3rd Class at the GNIC ground, Everest vs. Vikings at the GYO ground, GCC vs. GYO at the GCC ground, GDF – bye.
Zone B: DCC vs. TSC at the DCC ground, MSC vs. UG at the UG ground MYO vs. Police at the MYO ground, Ace Warriors – bye.
Tomorrow, Zone A: 3rd Class vs. GCC at the GCC ground, Vikings vs. GYO at the GYO ground, GDF vs. GNIC at the GNIC ground, Everest – bye.
Zone B: MSC vs. MYO at the MYO ground, Police vs. Ace Warriors at the WMCA ground, TSC vs. UG at the UG ground.
