Delegates of Miss African queen pageant honoured

Delegates in the Miss Guyana African Queen pageant were last weekend honoured along with sponsors and supporters for their contribution in the 2012 production of the inaugural showcase at the African Heritage Museum.

The trophies given to the delegates were handcrafted in Kenya, they are called ‘thinking statues.’ The wooden sculptures symbolize growing and moving forward in life to reach success.The trophies given to the sponsors are called ‘support statues’ and they symbolize the support of the elders or whoever is in a position to do so to the child/youth, person or entity.

Pageant Public Relations Officer, Shabakie Fernandes expressed her gratitude for the support of the inaugural pageant, she mentioned that the pageant is on the right track and she is very proud of all the delegates. The pageant does not only highlight black women of this society, but also the history and progression of the people. Gavin Hope, the Event Sponsorship Manager of Digicel applauded the motive and expressed the solid shape of the pageant expressed the wish that the pageant will be around for a long time.  Digicel made  contributions by sponsoring prizes such as a blackberry for the Miss Facebook Beautiful Winner and the door prize of one smart phone and advertisements.

African Queen, Miss Jillicia Pinder won trophies for her crown, the Miss Facebook Beautiful and the Best Talent Piece and she also received a hamper from Bryden and Fernandes.  First runner-up Tiffany Spencer won a trophy for the best evening gown while Toni Bentley, who also tied in first runner up position, received a hamper.  Rashana Lambert received a token for the 3rd runner up position along with Sussan Simon as the fourth runner up who also was presented with a trophy for Best Research Presentation.

Digicel and Stabroek News were recipients of a ‘Support Trophy’ for their contributions and support to the pageant.
