The reigning Miss Universe Leila Lopes of Angola will pay a five day visit to Guyana next month to assist with various aspects of the local leg of the pageant.
Khalsan PR Inc, the official spokesperson for the Miss Guyana Universe Pageant said in a press release yesterday that Lopes arrives in Guyana on September 12 and departs these shores on September 16, one day after the local leg of the pageant is held.
Lopes during her stay will be a guest of McNeal Enterprise and the Ministry of Tourism and is also scheduled to meet President Donald Ramotar during her stay.
According to the press release she will visit Kaieteur Falls, the public hospital, University of Guyana and the Palms, among other places of interest.
Lopes’ visit to Guyana will mark the second time that a reigning Miss Universe queen was brought to Guyana by McNeal Enterprise following a visit by Amelia Vaga in 2003.
Wendy Fitzwilliam (1998) and Mpule Kwelagobe (1999) were present in 2002 at the first Miss Guyana Universe pageant organized by McNeal.
Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation (House of Limacol), Caribbean Airlines, Channel 28 and Guyana Times are also sponsors of Lopes’ visit, the release said.
Fourteen delegates will on September 15 vie for this year’s Miss Guyana Universe crown. The pageant will be held at the Princess Hotel.
