(Trinidad Guardian) When a fight broke out at a bar in Claxton Bay on Saturday night, teenager Tevin Alexander tried to avoid trouble by running away. However, his escape was short-lived as his four assailants followed him, pulled him into their car, shot him in the head and threw him out. The recount of Alexander’s killing was related to his family who pleaded with the police to arrest his killers. Up to late yesterday, a suspect was in custody.
However, investigators said the suspect claimed Alexander was the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Police also seized a white Wingroad which was stained with fresh blood. Up to late yesterday, investigators were trying to piece together the details of Alexander’s death. Initial reports indicate that around 3 am, Alexander, 18, of Sum Sum Hill, was liming at Side Bar in Claxton Bay when a fight broke out. A witness who was standing opposite the bar said “bottles began to fly.”
Some of Alexander’s cousins were also reportedly involved in the fight. Alexander then left the bar and called her. “I was across the road talking to him on the phone so I told him to keep running and I will meet him,” the witness said. Fearful for her life, the woman said she ran up the road and told Alexander she would meet up with him later.
However, it is believed that four men who were in the the fight left the bar, followed Alexander in their white Wingroad and pulled him in. A relative claimed that the men shot Alexander in the head and then threw him out. As he fell, Alexander broke his neck. His mother Michelle Alexander said she wanted closure in the death. She said she was at home around 4.20 am when she got a call informing her something had happened to her son.
“I knew it was bad news. They killed my son,” she said. Alexander was her second child and was described as a loveable person. An autopsy has been scheduled to be done on Alexander’s body today at the Forensic Science Centre in St James. Supt Johnny Abraham of the Central Division is heading investigations.
