A mother of two, who was allegedly caught by police with cocaine in her purse, was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court was told that Michelle Walters, 45, a vendor, of 63 Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, had eight grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in her possession last Friday.
Walters’ attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat stated that his client knew nothing about the charge levelled against her.
He claimed a man ran into her yard and threw the substance, which landed on the ground, and ran away.
The prosecution, however, objected to bail, while noting that it had a different account of what transpired.
It stated that the police observed that Walters threw down her purse and ran when she saw them, and the police then made a search of the purse and found a transparent bag which contained the whitish substance believed to be cocaine.
Noting the conflicting accounts, the magistrate refused Walters bail and said that all the issues will be ventilated at the trial.
The matter was then transferred to Court 1 for October 3.
