Based on the recent 2012 CSEC results, students from Marian Academy performed excellently. Over the past eleven years, consistent teamwork between students, teachers, management and parents in Marian Academy has resulted in a well-balanced school programme which has significantly benefited the performance of its students academically as well as in co-curricular areas.
A total of 49 Marian students entered 427 subjects in the 2012 CSEC examinations, 95% of whom passed.
With 20% achieving distinctions and 75% between Grades 1-3 this year, Marian Academy can look back with satisfaction to a period of good exam preparation and team spirit. A 100% pass rate was reached in 13 subjects, namely Caribbean History, Chemistry, Economics, Food & Nutrition, French, Human and Social Biology, Integrated Science, Information Technology, Physics, Principles of Business, Religious Education, Technical Drawing and Visual Arts, with a total of 34 distinctions recorded. For the core subjects English A and Mathematics, pass rates of 94% and 87% respectively were registered. Compared to the pass rates for English A (37.02%) and Mathematics (29.69%) at the national level, Marian Academy has contributed to preventing the country’s pass rates from dropping even further.
Between 2002 and 2012, Marian Academy has kept its CSEC overall pass rates between 73% and 95%, and since 2006 in the higher 80 and 90 percentage levels. Over the same period, English A and Mathematics average pass rates were 91% and 80% respectively.
Marian students in general not only perform well in the core academic areas, but also in foreign languages – Spanish (95%) and French (92%) – as well as in the Arts, namely Visual Arts (77%) and Music (100 %). Even though these subjects unfortunately still do not attract sufficient interest from young persons, Marian Academy has continued its efforts over the past 11 years in these areas, also through its wide and diverse co-curricular programme and school art projects and competitions.
These activities also benefit from significant assistance from parents and volunteers who support the Marian principle that education should go beyond academics and encourage students’ active involvement as well in co-curricular areas and community service so as to allow young Marians to develop themselves into well-balanced, creative and responsible citizens.
Marian Academy takes this opportunity to congratulate its 2012 CSEC students on their success and extends its appreciation to parents, teachers and volunteers for all their support in guiding these Marians throughout their programme. Marian Academy encourages all to continue to walk in the light of wisdom.
