Malteenoes Sports Club continued their imperious, unbeaten form heading into tomorrow’s semi finals when the latest round of matches of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) David Persaud Investments Cup one day tournament was contested yesterday.
Malteenoes, electing to bat first on their home ground against Ace Warriors, saw Nichosie Barker and Hakeem David piling on a double-century opening partnership of 215 before David fell after striking eight fours and a six for 73.
Barker went on to score 170 before he was dismissed in the 42nd over, with just five overs remaining.
The game was reduced to a 47-37 affair.
Barker hit a total of 22 fours and four sixes in his massive knock.
Late hitting from Jamal Norton (42), Ray Peters (44 not out) and Vishal Narayan (20 not out) then enabled Malteenoes to reach the highest score in the tournament, 404 -4.
In reply, Ace Warriors were bowled out for 101 to lose by 303 runs.
Davendra Doodnauth, 24, was the top scorer. Vishal Narayan finished a decent outing with three wickets for seven runs and Shaquille Moseley 2 for 18.
At Bourda, Demerara Cricket Club `B’ drew with Gandhi Youth Organization. DCC `B’ batted first and compiled 184 all out in 52 overs.
Wicketkeeper Kemol Savory topscored with 74 while Xaviee Smith supported with 29.
P. Persaud took 2 for 24 to back up S. Roopnarine’s 4 for 35 from 11 overs.
GYO, in reply, batted their allotted 48 overs to finish on 8 for 138. Ryan Shun made 63 while Rajiv Balgobin collected two wickets for 28 runs.
At Everest, St. Stanislaus College ended the competition on a high as they defeated Transport Sports Club by seven wickets. TSC A batted first and were bowled out for 123 in 28.4 overs with Joshua Ram getting to 35 and Ewert Samuels 21. Bowling for ‘Saints’ Lynden Wilson collected 4 for 30 and Rajin Deonarine 2 for 14. St. Stanislaus College reached their target comfortably with Prince Roberts making 45 and Deonarine 33.
Proceeding’s in Zone `B’ saw Third Class suffering defeat at the hands of DCC A. Third Class managed only 120 all out in 31.1 overs on the small GNIC ground.
Orlando Sturge collected 4 for 30 and Allister Fields 4 for 27 for DCC A. For Third Class, Shawn Garnett scored 20 while Samuel Fraser made the top score of 34.
DCC A reached their target for the loss of 4 wickets in 26.2 overs. Brothers Khemraj and Sunil Rupee scored 30 and 42 respectively to guide their team home.
