A man was yesterday accused of attempting to obstruct the course of justice by offering another man money for withholding information from the police.
Rameez Mohammed, 24, of Lot 174 Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday granted $120,000 bail, after he was charged at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on August 23, Mohammed wilfully attempted to obstruct the course of justice in that he contacted Mohammed Ali and offered to cover his expenses if he withheld information from the police as to how he received a vehicle, GJJ 9390, which was the subject of an investigation.
Attorney Glenn Hanoman, who represented Mohammed, in seeking bail, noted that his client has been released on station bail already in the sum of $50,000 and did not pose a flight risk.
Hanoman then stated that the person who made the report to the police was himself under investigation and he was not sure what the prosecution would attach to the charge against his client.
The prosecution had no objection to bail and Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton set it at $120,000.
Mohammed is to make his next appearance on October 4 in Court One.
