A painter/porter was yesterday placed on bail in the sum of $500,000 when he was arraigned in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking and entering a house and stealing in excess of $5M worth of items.
Ryan Dindyal, 28, of 47 Bel Air Village, was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
It is alleged that Dindyal, together with others between August 15 and 20, broke and entered the dwelling house of James Williams and stole therein a quantity of items totaling in excess of $5M, property of the said James Williams.
Counsel for the accused, Glenn Hanoman, told the court that at the time of the incident, his client was hired as a porter for someone who owns the Canter truck that allegedly contained the stolen items, but Dindyal was unaware they were stolen.
However, counsel said, he was informed that a majority of the items were recovered but he could not understand why the owner of the Canter truck was not also charged.
On these grounds, Hanoman requested reasonable bail.
The prosecution objected to the bail application, citing the nature of the offence and the fact that the items recovered were found at the home of a friend of Dindyal, who claimed that Dindyal had taken them there for lodging.
The magistrate, after hearing the case, granted Dindyal $500,000 bail.
His next appearance is October 4 in Court One of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
