The post-mortem examination that was conducted on Shoala Gilgeous revealed that she died from asphyxiation due to manual strangulation and blunt trauma, her sister said yesterday.
This was later confirmed by a police press release.
It is expected that the suspect, Gilgeous’ reputed husband, will be charged with murder. He is expected to appear at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today.
Gilgeous, 23, of South Sophia, was found dead on Sunday around 5:30 pm by her niece after her reputed husband called her sister and informed her that she should check on her.
Her reputed husband was later apprehended by police.
The couple who had been living together for about ten months constantly experienced domestic problems. Prior to the discovery of her body, Gilgeous was heard screaming, her neighbours and her sister-in-law reported.
Her sister-in-law had also stated that the couple was fighting earlier in the day.
According to relatives and friends, Gilgeous, who was a victim of domestic abuse, had made numerous reports to the police concerning the matter.
