The ongoing live debate on corruption on NCN on Sunday night is welcome – moreso because many prefer to look at TV rather than read the newspapers. While more details are obtained in the print media, people relate more to the audio-visual media.
The debates bring our decision-makers before us and viewers are able to assess which side can support his/her line of arguments – accusations if you like.
However, for all their claims it would be encouraging if the opposition could have statistics to support their positions. In all fairness to PPP panellists, they do produce figures and rationales for certain projects.
It is disappointing that the dwindling number of opposition panellists in these debates is taking away from an event which has so much to offer. It would be instructive for a poll to be done to assess the impact the ‘corruption’ programme has on Guyanese.
Please, let the programme continue and I encourage the organizer, were opposition politicians to withdraw, as seems to be the indication, to invite representatives of the Chambers of Commerce and other interest groups to be on the programme. This country stands to benefit from it.
