(Barbados Nation) A six-month operation by the Drug Squad and Customs Department led to the discovery yesterday at the Bridgetown Port of 38 pounds of marijuana valued at B$156 000 in the trunks of two racing cars, which arrived from Jamaica to participate in this weekend’s Digicel/Williams Seaboard Marine International Race Meet.
Head of the Police Drug Squad, Superintendent Grafton Phillips, told the WEEKEND NATION that two men were being questioned by the police – one a member of the Barbados Auto Racing League, host of the big racing event, and a Jamaican, who was associated with that country’s team.
“The Drug Squad over the last six months has been carrying out operations targeting containers coming from source countries and [yesterday], with the assistance of the Customs Department, we checked three containers which arrived from Jamaica last Thursday,” Phillips said.
He added that in those containers were racing cars which were imported for this weekend’s event.
