Paul Anthony Lo Hing, who is accused of strangling his wife to death at Sophia on Sunday, was yesterday charged with her murder.
Lo Hing was arraigned before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on the capital charge for killing Shoala Gilgeous.
He was not required to plead to the charge, which is based on the allegation that on August 26, at ‘E’ Field, South Sophia, he murdered Gilgeous.
Lo Hing was represented by attorney Trenton Lake, who requested an early date for the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge. Lo Hing, meanwhile, was remanded to prison until October 5th, when the case will be called for reports and fixtures.
Gilgeous, 23, was found dead on Sunday around 5:30pm by her niece. Prior to the discovery, neighbours and Gilgeous’ sister-in-law had reported hearing the woman screaming. Her sister-in-law also said that the couple had been fighting earlier in the day. The couple had been living together for about 10 months and Gilgeous’ relatives and friends said that she was a victim of domestic abuse and had made numerous reports to police as a result of episodes.
