Digicel yesterday launched its “Unlimited Internet Service,” saying it will offer affordable plans to non-BlackBerry smartphone subscribers.
Prepaid BlackBerry customers will continue to enjoy the service they were getting for many years but now persons with non-BlackBerry internet-ready phones can also enjoy the same service at the same price, the telecommunications provider said in a press release.
This new service, the release explained, will allow prepaid customers with smartphones to enjoy the same rates as prepaid BlackBerry customers, with prices ranging from $290 for the daily plan, $1,160 for the weekly plan, $2,900 for the monthly plan, and the three-month plan for $7,500.
There is also an introductory offer on selected handsets; namely, the BlackBerry 9320 for $55,000, the Nokia N302G for $32,500, and the much sought after Samsung Galaxy SIII, for $153,500.
“Digicel is excited about this new service since all our prepaid customers will be able to get unlimited internet service utilising an internet ready phone of their choice,” Digicel’s Head of Marketing Jacqueline James was quoted as saying.
Since officially launching its services in Guyana in 2006, Digicel was the first to introduce BlackBerry service to consumers, and now the company is the first to introduce Unlimited Internet on the go to all internet ready phones to prepaid customers. There will also be a revised plan on offer for post-paid (contract) customers.
Meanwhile, James also indicated that daily, beginning Monday and ending Friday, customers who activate an Unlimited Internet Plan on a non-BlackBerry handset for one month or more prepaid or sign up a post-paid plan can qualify to win a Samsung Galaxy SIII, the release concluded.
