The Ministry of Education said yesterday that the reopening of some schools across Guyana will be delayed but teachers of the affected schools are required to report for duty on Monday to the Department of Education in their respective areas.
According to a statement issued by Chief Education Officer Olato Sam, the Ministry of Education is advising the general public that due to various unforeseen circumstances, some schools will not be reopening on Monday.
The details of the proposed dates for reopening are as follows:
Region 4
Covent Garden Primary School will reopen on September 10 to facilitate the completion of critical rehabilitative work.
Region 8
Due to the contractors’ inability to transport the necessary material to Region 8 as a result of the closure of roads in Region 10, the scheduled rehabilitative work to the dormitories at Mahdia Secondary and Paramakatoi Secondary schools have been delayed.
As a result, the dormitories at these two institutions will open on Sunday, September 16, 2012, but both schools will open as scheduled on September 3.
Region 10
As a result of the burning of One Mile Primary School and delays in the construction of furniture caused by the period of protest, the placement of pupils of One Mile Primary School will be as follows:
Pupils of Grade 6 will report for classes at the Block 22 Multi-Purpose Hall on Monday, September 3 at 07:50hrs.
Grade 1 pupils will commence at the One Mile Nursery School on September 17 and Grades 2,3,4 and 5 pupils will commence at Wismar Hill Primary School on September 17.
Pupils of Grades 1 to 5 will work an extra half-hour every day for the first two terms of the school year to make up for lost time.
Georgetown
St. Joseph High School will open on Monday, September 10 to facilitate ongoing sanitization of the building and compound as a result of completed rehabilitative work done at the institution.
Parents are also reminded that as of September 3, pupils of East La Penitence Nursery will attend Liana Nursery and pupils of East Ruimveldt Nursery will attend Roxanne Burnham Nursery.
The Ministry of Education also extended sincerest apologies to affected stakeholders, particularly, students, teachers and parents, the release added.
