Protestors elsewhere are frequently asked whether they think they will be better off; it was a topic too on the Doha Debates

Dear Editor,

I am compelled to respond to Mr Archie Cordis constant griping on the contents of  my television programme in Region 2, ‘Let’s Talk Essequibo‘ (Romel Roopnarine’s programme mostly on Linden did not tell Essequibo viewers that three protestors had been shot dead by police’ SN, August 31).

Mr Cordis is an AFC Regional Councillor and is seemingly desperate to be featured on the very television programme where in a previous letter to the press he was critical of the presence of none other than the Regional Chairman.

In fact, Mr Cordis seeks to justify his desperation for attention by indicating that he knows the arithmetic of Region 2 better than myself. Yet, in this latest letter attacking my programme he mentions everything else except the concerns highlighted by the people of Region 2. So much for his ‘genuine’ interest in addressing issues affecting the people in that region.

Well I have a message for Mr Cordis: ‘Let’s Talk Essequibo‘ will continue to engage all the people of Region 2 irrespective of whether their concerns are minor or major, with a view to highlighting their experiences to have them addressed.

Despite all the griping on the part of the Regional Councillor, he has not admitted that he is allowed to call in and air his views, however jaundiced, as he has done in the past.

Let me now deal with the issue of Linden, as he sought to draw comparisons with the Linden protests and what happens in other places, which is totally flawed. Mr Cordis exposes himself once again by stating that no journalist would think of asking protestors if they were or will be better off. Well the truth of the matter is that I am not sure what Mr Cordis has been following but he is completely wrong once again.

This is one of the most common questions and in fact it was even a topic on the Doha Debates.

Yours faithfully,
Romel Roopnarine
