The Lethem Hospital in Region Nine received a fully equipped ambulance on Friday and will now be able to resume its ambulance services to transport residents, especially those in need of urgent medical attention.
The ambulance will also take patients to other hospitals where they can receive care for complex medical matters, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported. Minister of Health Dr Bheri Ramsaran handed over the ambulance at the ministry’s compound, Brickdam, replacing the institution’s vehicle that was destroyed by fire last November. The hospital’s pharmacy was also destroyed in that fire.
In view of the geographical nearness of Lethem and Brazil, the ambulance will assist in transporting persons, when necessary, to Brazil, GINA said.
Ramsaran stated that the ministry had decided to replace the ambulance because of the geographical location of Region Nine and the hospital’s need for adequate transportation to serve the areas that depend on the institution.
