A popular Stabroek Market barber was yesterday morning stabbed to death during a heated argument with another man in the market area.
Dead is 37-year-old Yohan Hunte called `Man in the Roof’ who resided at Laing Avenue.
According to the police, around 10:15 am yesterday, Hunte and another man argued over the supply of electricity and during the exchange, he was stabbed to his chest. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he later succumbed.
According to persons in the area, Hunte was well known to the police as he had been in squabbles with many persons in the area. They said that yesterday morning the man observed another man utilizing an electrical outlet which belonged to him.
Reports are that Hunte and the man argued over the issue and the two men started to verbally abuse each other, even as persons attempted to part them. A woman who witnessed the incident noted that the two men started to hit each other and the suspect later pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed Hunte to the chest.
“Like he didn’t really go fuh kill he but you know how emotions does get the better of people”, the woman said. She stated that persons in the area rushed the injured man to the hospital, adding that he lost a considerable amount of blood.
When this newspaper visited the man’s home his neighbours related that he lived alone. The man got his alias from being among a group of prisoners who managed to climb atop the roof of the Camp Street prison on several occasions to protest conditions there. Persons related that his name also signified his height since he was taller than the average person.
The suspect has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
