A man was remanded to prison on Friday when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton for allegedly stealing a lady’s handbag at knifepoint.
Orin Accra, 25, of 461 West Ruimveldt, denied the August 30 charge of robbery under arms which alleged that he robbed Winslock Sookdeo of one cell phone, a handbag containing one umbrella, lipstick, brush, etc., all totalling $18,280 in value, property of the said Sookdeo.
Facts of what transpired on the day in question were not related to the court.
Accra, unrepresented by counsel, made an application to the court for bail but the prosecution objected on the grounds that the accused had admitted to committing the alleged offence in a caution statement.
The magistrate granted the prosecution its request.
Accra has to return on October 5 to Court One of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
