The New Building Society limited overs second division league yesterday also lacked upsets as the better sides notched up wins while at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) added insult to injury as they pulled off a victory over Malteenoes Sports Club.
The 40-overs-a-side competition continued with Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) overcoming Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) as the Georgetown Cricket Club overpowered Vikings.
At Camp Road, the usually aggressive Dennis Squires hit DCC out of some early trouble while Almando Doman had a near excellent all round day for GCC, and GNIC produced a decent team performance to secure victory against home side GYO.
In Zone A, GNIC batted first against GYO at GYO and made 248 all out in 37 overs with all rounder Matthew Marks getting 63 not out with seven fours and one six to support Jason Melville, who made 74 with eight fours and four sixes. Premchand Sookdeo scored 37 opening the batting for GNIC.
Bowling for GYO Anand Goolsaran took 4 for 61 from seven overs, Mark Hamilton 2 for 38, and Richard Hoyte 2 for 28.
GYO only managed 155 all out in 28.1 overs. Opener Loakesh Reid top scored with 45 which included seven fours and a six while Hoyte made 25, and Garfield DeRoach 21.
Bowling for GNIC, Orlando Kirten collected 5 for 24 from eight overs to secure victory for GNIC by 143 runs.
At the Thomas Lands YMCA ground, GCC won comfortably against Vikings.
GCC won the toss and batted first, scoring 6 for 233 from their 40 overs, which proved to be 142 runs too many for Vikings. After losing three early wickets, wicket keeper batsman Martin Pestano Bell scored 31 in a crucial partnership with Almando Doman who scored 83 with nine fours and a six. Shamar Graham made 20 not out down the order as GCC retained a scoring rate of nearly six runs an over. Kenny Thomas was the pick of the Vikings bowlers with 2 for 45 from eight overs.
Vikings scrapped to 91 all out with Doman causing all sorts of problems with his off spin as he collected 6 for 12 from 4.3 overs. Adrian Persaud was the highest scorer with 23.
At Everest, DCC outplayed MSC to win by four wickets. DCC won the toss and chose to field and despite a decent start, Malteenoes faltered on their way to 183 all out in 36 overs. Openers Nichosie Barker (21) and Delvon McEwan (31) shared in an opening partnership of 63 before the innings fell away. It took 62 from Shaquille Williams from 64 balls with four fours, to take Malteenoes to a decent score before he was last man out. DCC wrapped up the tail as Omesh Dhanram took 2 for 43, Squires 2 for 14, and Linden Lyght 2 for 41.
DCC, in reply, reached 6 for 184 with Squires slamming 85 not out off 59 deliveries to lead the DCC chase. Dexter George was not out on 10 when victory was achieved with almost 10 overs to spare. Malteenoes gifted 40 extras to the chase as the next highest score came from Omesh Dhanram (20).
Steven Sankar took 2 for 24 from eight overs bowling for Malteenoes while Kareem Naughton, who took a wicket in his first over, had 2 for 49, and Terrence Poole 2 for 39.
