Young Achievers with wins in the fours and sixes format were Saturday crowned Tradewind Tankers True Champions volleyball kings for the third year in succession when the tournament climaxed at the National Gymnasium.
Young Achievers lost the twos’ format 19-21 to Guysuco Training School the eventual second place overall finisher but won their fours and sixes matchups against the same opponents.
In the fours’ final Young Achievers dropped the first set 14 – 16 but won the remaining two games 15-7, 15-12 while they won the sixes format in straight games 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.
In the third place playoff, hosts Castrol Strikers defeated Rollers without dropping a set.
After a competitive two match which Castrol ended up winning 21-18, Castrol turned up their game a few notches mainly through superior serving to make the sixes a one-sided affair.
They easily won the first set by 25-15 then clinched the second and third sets 25-23 and 25-23 to push Rollers into fourth place.
At the end of the finals trophies were awarded for individual performances along with trophies and monetary prizes for first, second and third places while fourth place received cash prizes only.
The best blocker trophy went to Creston Rodney of TC 1 while all the other individual prizes went to Young Achievers with Kevin Vieira winning the best setter award and Randy Adams the best spiker, best server and MVP awards.
The tournament now moves on to the International challenge which will see the two top finishers; Achievers and TC 1 along with hosts Castrol engage an overseas club team which is to be announced shortly.
The international challenged is scheduled for the end of October.
