Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) are the champions of the inaugural PowerAde Inter-Ministry/Cooperation seven-a-side football competition played on Sunday at the Thirst Park Ground.
GRA defeated J&S Electrical 3-2 on penalty kicks. The game ended one-all in regulation time. Scoring for GRA and J&S Electrical were Shervin Batterfield (28th min) and Deon Alfred (10th min) respectively.
In the penalty shoot-out, excellent goal keeping by GRA’s Jomo Belfield saw him saving two goals. He was later judged MVP of the game.
Penalties were scored by Sherwyn Bailey and Delon Josiah.
In the semifinal, J&S Electrical scored a 2-0 win over John Fernandes Limited with both goals coming from Monty Simon in the fifth and 17th minutes.
In the third place playoff Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) defeated John Fernandes Limited 3-0 with goals from Jamal Cozier in the 11th and 24th minutes and Stellon David in the 27th minute.
An exhibition game was played between Sweet Point Snackette and the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Rich Boys that ended 6-4 in favour of Sweet Point.
A presentation ceremony was held after the play-off to hand over the winning trophy to GRA. Tournament coordinator Mark Young said a date is yet to be set for the handing over of the cash prizes to the respective teams.
The winning team for the tournament will take away $250,000 while the runners-up, third and fourth place finishers will take away $175,000, $75,000 and $25,000 respectively.
