A poultry farmer was yesterday accused of using threatening language and verbally abusing his wife of 30 years.
Saisnarine Joseph, 58, of Craig, was arraigned before Magistrate Faith McGusty on charges of using threatening and abusive language to his wife, Christine Joseph, occasioning a breach of the peace.
It is alleged that the offences were committed on September 9, in Georgetown. When given the opportunity to speak, Christine Joseph described her husband as a heavy drinker and smoker and said that he had accused her of seeing another man and had threatened to kill her.
The woman, who was in tears, told the magistrate that she was afraid of her husband and that all she wanted was peace between them.
Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who sought bail for the husband, noted that the couple shared two children.
The prosecution had no objections to bail but on condition that the man remove from the premises and relocate to a different address.
The Magistrate granted the prosecution’s request, advising the man to have no contact with his wife pending the determination of the matter.
Bail was set at $20,000 and the case was adjourned until November 21, when it will be heard at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
