Ramesh Praimlall, aka Sharukh, 27 years old of 14 Supply, Mahaicony and Airy Hall perished in an early morning accident today at Kairuni, Linden-Soesdyke Highway while others escaped with minor injuries.
According to reports, Praimlall was driving a truck, GPP 2252 when he collided with another Bedford truck, GLL 1645. The latter had reportedly suffered a blow out along the Highway in the vicinity of Kairuni when he was hit from behind by Praimlall.
The truck driven by Praimlall turned over and pinned him in the driver’s seat. Persons on the scene said that the incident occurred sometime after 4 am. According to the wife of the owner of truck, GPP 2252, Hardat Singh, she received a call from her husband which indicated that something serious had happened resulting in her immediately calling the police and the ambulance. “Meh husband called and was crying `oh God help, oh God somebody help’ and right away I called police and ambulance”, said Sharon Singh.
The woman said she then summoned other relatives and friends and the deceased’s common law wife, Kamari Singh and rushed to Linden. She said that Praimlall was a worker and close family friend. He and the crew of four were heading to the Amaila’s Falls project road to take in a tractor to commence a recently acquired contract.
It took more than one hour for persons on the scene to cut Praimall loose from the truck. SN understands that the man was in an unconscious state for most of the time but by the time he was freed he had apparently succumbed to his injuries. He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to Sharon Singh he was driving originally on a Bosai contract but opted to take the maiden trip for the new contract at Amaila Falls.
“Meh husband was sending another driver but he said he wanted to do the run”, Singh said. “We does always give he first preference because when we would get problems with the others he don’t give we a single trouble, we coulda trust him with anything”, Singh added.
The 27-year-old was the father of a 19-month-old baby in a union with Kamarie Singh. At the LHC, Kamarie Singh was in a state of shock and briefly composed herself to give the name, age and address of her partner. “No God, he was too good, how, how he gone now, no God.” she repeatedly cried.
She last saw her partner on Wednesday before he left their Airy Hall home shortly after 1 pm. “He left home so happy now he gone.” she cried.
Mother of the deceased, Jaswantie Praimall, 48, was inconsolable as she grieved for the loss of her only child.
It was not clear how many persons were on the other truck at the time but according to the truck owner who is a Linden resident and operates a large business in the interior, he had received a call from the driver indicating that they had suffered a blow out of one of the right rear wheels approximately an hour before the accident. The man asked not to be named.
The driver was reportedly asleep in the front of his truck when he felt the sudden heavy impact causing it to pitch and topple several times. The driver escaped with minor injuries. The truck was laden with fuel and a large quantity of groceries and other supplies.
When SN arrived on the scene the roadway was wet with fuel and the owners were transferring saved supplies to another truck.
The two trucks were at the time several yards away from each other and facing the same direction.
The accident gave rise to the repeated call for truck drivers to observe the law of not traversing the Linden-Soesdyke Highway after 6 pm or before 6 am. They were also admonished to be equipped with reflector cones in the event they have to be parked along the Highway at night. No reflector cone was visible on the scene.
