A Tucville carpenter was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with stealing from a woman and assaulting her.
Shawn Williams, 28, of Lot 17 Tucville Squatting Area, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that on September 2, in Georgetown, Williams stole a Motorola phone, and a gold ring, valued in total at $270,000. The articles were the property of Shondell Manderson, whom he was also charged with unlawfully wounding.
Williams was not required to plead to the indictable larceny charge, but denied the wounding charge.
Manderson, who was shaking, told the magistrate that Williams and her were friends and people had warned her about him. She added that on the day when the offences were allegedly committed, she was packing to travel into the interior. Williams, she told the court, kicked down her door “flat to the ground” and began slapping her about the face. She added that he later punctured her arm with a broken bottle.
Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick objected to bail on the grounds that the Williams had previous charges in the courts.
The magistrate subsequently refused bail and transferred the case to Court One for October 24.
