Dear Editor,
I must congratulate the Bartica IMC on doing a fine job. The IMC was installed on May 24, 2012, by Minister of Local Government Ganga Persaud, and since then Barticians have started to see lots of progress.
The IMC to date has not received any subventions from the government. I was reliably informed they are using the same revenue which they collect.
1) Market lights have been reconnected by GPL, and debts paid off.
2) The cemetery at Sarah Hill has a new access road and has been weeded and cleared up.
3) The old garbage dumpsite has been cleared.
4) The Bedford dump truck that was scrapped is now in working order to serve Bartica.
5) Alleyways have been cleared of bushes.
6) Some roads have been fixed for motorists.
7) There is a new market site for vendors.
8) Members of the public can now meet with the IMC Chairman and Councillors every Wednesday to discuss their problems.
The IMC is now planning to clean and desilt all drains.
A new garbage dumpsite has been identified and works will start by October to finish by January 2013.
Many thanks to the Lions of Bartica for painting road signs and pedestrian crossings.
Bartica is now moving in the right direction. The RDC and IMC are working together. Politics has its time, but where development is concerned, Barticians always unite. We would like to see our beaches resanded and kept clean for visitors.
We also have a new shed at the Regatta site. Many thanks to the Regional Chairman and GGMC.
First and Second Avenue are very congested because of illegal vending. The IMC is now removing vendors to the new location. The Potaro road around 5 Miles is in a very bad state and is causing a lot of inconvenience for children to attend secondary school at Three Miles.
Over at Itaballi the school is in a deplorable state; the children are now using the community centre as their primary school. In Bartica central there are lots of motor vehicles and cattle are also roaming the streets and avenues. This is causing lots of problems.
We are calling on the Local Government and Education Ministries to solve these problems.
